We are excited to invite you to a special C*UUYAN visioning and business meeting in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25. Together we will engage in large and small group reflection to discern our purposes, goals, and priorities. Your input is crucial!
Dear C*UUYAN,
We are excited to invite you to a special meeting in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25. This C*UUYAN visioning and business meeting will take place just prior to GA so that as many young adults as possible can attend both events. We hope to have a maximal number of young adults involved in the Pre-GA meeting. Together we will engage in large and small group reflection to discern our purposes, goals, and priorities. Your input is crucial!
Some of the questions which will be explored include:
• CUUYAN’s evolution of purpose
• C*UUYAN’s larger mission
• C*UUYAN and conferneces
• Who C*UUYAN serves
• C*UUYAN’s reach
• How C*UUYAN can support young adults who are not tied to congregations
• How C*UUYAN can be a financially independent organization
• C*UUYAN’s relationship with the UUA
• C*UUYAN’s relationship with CYF (Church of the Younger Fellowship), exploration of our similarities and differences
• C*UUYAN’s relationship with other organizations (i.e. DRUUMM Youth and Young Adults, Allies for Racial Equity, Groundwork, the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice)
By the end of the meeting, we hope to have a clear vision of purpose, who we serve, and our new relationship with UUA. These outcomes will then translate into directives with which the Steering Committee will charge a task force, responsible for developing a strategic plan for CUUYAN to achieve those directives.
Below is the logistical information for this conference. We hope to see as many young adults present as possible. This meeting is vitally important to the health of our community, and we hope to see you there.
Dates: We will meet all day Tuesday, June 24 and a good part of Wednesday, June 25.
Site: The meeting will be taking place in the same space as GA—the Broward Convention Center. You will need a government-issued photo ID to enter the meeting space.
In addition, we hope to use technology and the internet to open the process up to those who can not participate in person.
Travel: Please plan to arrive in Ft. Lauderdale on Monday night and depart on Wednesday night or stay for GA.
Housing: You can arrange to stay in the hotels which are available for GA or arrange your own housing. We recommend the GA hotels because they are most convenient to the Convention Center and we will be making full use of our time both days.
Registration: Registration will soon be up on http://connectuu.com. Our goal is to make this low or no cost since travel and housing will be your responsibility.
Scholarships: Some finanacial assistance will be available from C*UUYAN through our budget and the Raise the Roof scholarship fund. More information and applications will be forthcoming. Please also ask as many sources for scholarships as you can think of. Some ideas include…
• Ask your district (try the YA or Religious Education staff person).
• Ask committees in your district.
• Ask to be a delegate for your congregation if you have one.
• Ask for a scholarship from your congregation (or a nearby one) even if you're not a member.
• Ask your school if you're a student. (Try the interfaith office—you never know!)
• If you’re attending GA as well as the Pre-GA Meeting, apply for a GA scholarship with the GA Planning Committee (GAPC). Follow the links on the left-have navigation bar at: http://uua.org/events/generalassembly (Click on Registration and Housing, then Finanacial Aid.)
• People may be more willing to support you if you ask for a "matching donation" where they give you the same amount as you raise yourself.
• Offer to write up or present a report after GA.
• Offer to do a workshop after GA (either about GA in general or about a specific topic).
• Even if groups can't assist you, sometimes individuals will offer. That's one more reason it never hurts to ask.
See you in June!
In faith,
C*UUYAN Steering Committee

Update:
The Pre-GA Meeting will actually take place in GA hotels. The hotels are outside of the Port Authority space, so you WILL NOT need any kind of ID to gain access to the Pre-GA Meeting.
If you plan to stay for GA, which will take place at the Convention Center inside the Port Authority space, you will need a government-issued photo ID.
We still hope to utilize technology to make the meeting accessible to folks who are unable to attend.[ Reply to This ]
